Recurring damp under a kitchen sink

A household in Beigang had noticed damp under the kitchen sink over several weeks. The area had been dried out twice but the moisture kept returning. They weren't sure whether it was the tap, the waste pipe, or a joint lower in the cabinet.

What Was Done

The technician isolated both the tap connection and the trap. The problem turned out to be a corroded compression fitting on the cold supply, which was weeping slowly. The fitting was replaced and the joint re-sealed. The trap was inspected and found to be sound. Total time on-site: around 45 minutes.

No further dampness reported. The client was shown the replaced fitting and given a note on what to check if the area showed moisture again. No follow-up visit required within the two months since.

What Was Done

After checking the cistern and ruling out a fill or flap valve issue, the technician inspected the trap and found a partial blockage in the trap curve — accumulated scale and waste over time. The drain was cleared and the trap inspected. The cistern was also checked at the client's request and the fill valve adjusted for better performance.

Result

Single flush clearing restored. The client was advised on a periodic mild cleaning method to slow scale build-up in the trap given the hard water in the area. No additional charge for the cistern check.

During the pipe review, the technician found a partially closed gate valve on the cold supply that had been left that way after a previous job. The valve was opened fully, restoring normal pressure.
